Beef Short Ribs with Pepper & Black Beans

Tasty beef short ribs with bright green broccoli  An easy  to make dish, once you've found the ingredients in an Asian grocery or specialty shop. 

  • 3 lb beef short ribs with bone in, or 1 1/2 lb boneless
  • 1 T cooking oil
  • 1 T sesame oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 med onion, sliced thin
  • 1T fresh ginger, minced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 T Chinese fermented black beans
  • ¼ cup black soy sauce [or ½ cup regular soy sauce]
  • 1 lb broccoli, cut into flowerets
  1. Cut into individual ribs, or 3-4" sections if boneless.
  2. Brown beef in oil and sesame oil, remove to a small bowl
  3. Sauté onions, pepper, ginger, garlic, black beans, 5’
  4. Add soy sauce, stir, return beef, mix, cover and simmer on lowest heat 30"
  5. Add broccoli, cover, simmer 30’

 Beef with spicy sauce

This is an adaptatrion of a dish we had on our China trip

 1 lb beef, pound with mallet to tenderize, cut into thin strips.

 Stir fry, combine with black fungus, zucchini sliced thin, onion strips, dried red peppers and hot sauce
